7 Impactful Movies and Series every Christian Should Watch.

I am a Christian woman who appreciates finding creative ways to connect and learn more about God, as well as biblical stories. One way to do this, which we’re taught from a very young age, is to read our Bible; a lot of answers to our questions are in there. Another great way to connect with God is through storytelling with our neighbors, as well as listening to worship music. There are millions of unique ways to not only connect with God but to learn more about Him. My favorite way is watching Christian Movies and Series. I’m a visual person, and I picture everything as I see it, and for that, I can appreciate having a story turned into visuals.

I’ve compiled a list of 7 of my Favorite Christian Movies and Series that will be a great watch.

5 Impactful Movies Every Christian Should Watch

1. The Young Messiah

The Young Messiah is a movie about Jesus’ upbringing. When I saw the title of the movie, I realized that Jesus was once just a child, like you and me. We’re often so focused on what He was like as an adult and all of the wonderful miracles that He performed that we sometimes forget He was also just a child.

It makes you wonder what He was like, if He had a normal childhood, and what His relationship with His mother, Mary, was like. And although it’s just a movie, and may not be exactly how it happened in real life, it does make you think. This is a great movie to start with for someone who wants to learn more about Jesus.

2. The Passion of the Christ

This was my introduction to Christian movies. The Passion of the Christ movie was released in 2004, I was only 8 years old at the time. The movie was so impactful that it changed my understanding of how much Christ truly sacrificed for us to be here today. The scene of Jesus carrying His cross while brutally getting hit, and then getting crucified while his mother, Mary, watched, will forever be ingrained in my brain and my heart.

The Passion of the Christ is a great introduction to understanding the impact that Jesus made by sacrificing His life for us.

3. Mary

I was so excited about this one! This movie is a story about Mary from birth up to the point in her life when she becomes the mother of Jesus. I’m the type of person who gets curious about the “side characters” of a story. I want to know their backstory, too. And this movie summed up Mary’s story quite well. About her parents, her life, and meeting her husband, Joseph.

She was a normal girl who God chose to be the mother of Jesus Christ. Her life played a crucial role in the life that we get to live today. The movie was quite eye-opening.

4.The Shack

The Shack is a beautiful but also somber movie. After suffering a family tragedy, a man goes into deep depression and questions his faith. He receives a letter asking him to a shack in the wilderness. He finds important truths that will change his understanding of his tragedy and change his life and his relationship with God forever.

5. The Forge

The Forge is about a teenager who has just graduated from high school. He lives with his single mother, who has encouraged him to create a better life for himself. He would rather spend his time at home playing video games or basketball with his friends. His mom, frustrated, tells him to either get a job or move out. He ends up getting an interview with a man who later becomes his mentor. He teaches him the meaning of becoming a man of God through discipleship. He begins to discover God’s purpose for his life. A beautiful story.

Impactful Series Every Christian should watch

1. The Chosen

The Chosen is probably the most-watched Christian Series right now. If you’ve never heard of it, now is seriously the time to catch up. They’re currently on their fourth season, maybe fifth, I might be a little behind. The Chosen is about the story of Jesus and His disciples. You truly get an understanding of each disciple, their backstory, and their relationship with Jesus. You also better understand all the sacrifices that Jesus made even before His crucification. I can’t recommend The Chosen enough.

2. Testament: The Story of Moses

The Story of Moses also happens to be one of my favorites. I watched the Series after I finished reading the book of Exodus. It was so beautiful to see the story come to life. It taught me that every single person has a purpose in this life. With Moses, his purpose was to lead the people out of slavery, and just like most of us feel when we are on a journey of becoming our truest self, impostor syndrome kicks in, and we question our capabilities. Although Moses doubted himself at some point, he continued to listen to God’s voice and commands and ultimately freed his people.
