Austin stands out as my favorite city to date, prompting my husband and me to plan a move there in the next couple of years. The city is alive with endless possibilities, offering a vibrant tapestry of experiences. Here are 10 Amazing things to do in Austin Texas.
Try the best Queso in the City
I’m not exaggerating when I say Torchy’s Tacos has the most amazing quest I’ve ever tried. My husband and our Uber drive in Austin can attest to this. Torchy’s Tacos was our first stop when we left the airport: we were famished. With a planned itinerary for our stay, we knew exactly what we were doing for the next few days. Having heard numerous stories about the delicious food in Austin, I was convinced after trying that quest. They also served really good tacos: my favorite was the Bushfire with Jamaican jerk chicken, grilled jalapeños, mango and sour cream.
Jo’s Hot Coffee Good Food
This is the coffee shop with the famous “I love you so much” wall.
Jo’s Hot Coffee is a cute little spot downtown Austin, we stopped by for a quick cup of coffee before we went out for breakfast. I’m glad we did. The line is usually bumping, but it is a line that moves. It was cold in the morning, we grabbed our coffee and sat at the patio which I highly recommend, especially during the colder seasons when the sun’s out. It hits you just right if you choose the correct seat. I didn’t want to leave.
I had a hot cup of coffee with oat milk and and my husband had an iced coffee. Definitely worth stopping by.
You pretty much feel like a local, it’s on a busy street where locals walk their dogs, go for a jog or grab a cup of coffee before they start their day. I just felt like one of them, like I belonged there.
The Well Restaurant
The Well restaurant is for the girlies who love aesthetics. It has great ambiance is out of this world, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed their drinks; I would go back just for them. We tried the Blue Matcha Latte, which was quite an interesting color, but the drink itself was very delicious. My husband loves matcha, and wouldn’t stop talking about how much he enjoyed it. If you’re a matcha person as well, then I highly suggest you stop by.
I personally would not come back for the food, it tasted pretty average. The only thing that looked appetizing was the avocado toast but I was not impressed when I had it.
Heritage Boot Co.
If you’re looking to buy great quality boots, then you have to stop by Heritage Boot Co. I think my husband’s reason to go to Austin was to get himself a pair of boots, he had been talking about them for quite some time. I’m not complaining though, it’s his birthday after all.
To spare yourself some time, don’t bother trying other stores, Heritage Boot Co stands out like a sore thumb. They had beautiful boots, pricey but definitely worth, as they last for years. Before we went boot shopping, I told my husband that I was not interested in getting a pair, I immediately changed my mind when we walked into the store. Unfortunately the ones that I was interested in were not available at that time. But they had a lot of other options to choose from.
Wonderspaces Austin
Wonderspaces is an art exhibit that’s interactive from the moment you walk in. With a focus in more technology based art, as well as quite a few audience interactive pieces, it’s such a unique experience. We had so much fun interacting with the art, it’s very loose, you go at your own pace. There’s an upstairs and downstairs which means there’s a lot to see.
My personal favorites were the moving sun, the sewing machine that plays music and the VR experience was great as well. Tons of space to take pictures and it was overall just an incredible experience.
Kemuri Tatsyua
I have so much to say about this restaurant. What an experience! Food in Austin is just so good, the portions are so much bigger than food in Charlotte, which is a bonus if you’re a foodie. We chose the best restaurants to eat in Austin, we were thoroughly impressed with ourselves, not a single bad experience.
Back to Kemuri, the ambiance was wonderful, and the food service was excellent. Enticing combinations of spices and food, super unique menu. I’ve had some of the best ribs from Kemuri Tatsuya, I believe that’s what they’re known for. We had cornbread, chicken skewers and dessert, so delicious. This is the best place to have an intimate dinner with your partner to celebrate an occasion.
Texas State Capital
The Texas State is the Capital and seat of government of the American State of Texas. As a lover of American history, having a tour guide share so much knowledge about the Capitol’s history was incredibly exciting to me. The tour, lasting 30 minutes, was something I didn’t want to end. The building was steeped in History and adorned with the portraits of all the governors of Texas. The best part? The tour is free. Trust me, you’ll want to stop by.
Scooters downtown Austin
The best way to truly explore downtown Austin on a hot summer’s day is by riding scooters. I tried to avoid them throughout our trip since I’d never ridden one before. My husband convinced me to try, and we ended up using them throughout the day instead of Uber. There was so much to see, things that I would have missed if I was in a car. It was a beautiful adventure.
AO Tours Austin
I surprised my husband with a bus tour for his birthday, what better way is there to explore the city? You get a good overview of the neighborhoods, history and other noticeable sites, it included a couple of stops along the way. It’s 90 minutes long, and trust me when I say that it’s worth the money.
Tiki Tatsuya
I took my husband to a Disney inspired Tiki BarLogo, it was such a wild experience. Try to make a reservation days in advance because they get very busy. My husband and I waited for a couple of hours, and only got in about 2 hours before they closed. He loved the experience so much that he turned into a part time bartender himself. The ambiance was everything and their drinks were so tropical.
This trip was a 10/10 for sure, I hope to visit again one day. If you questioned visiting Austin, I hope this post did a lot of convincing.
