Equipment

  • 1 Matcha Bowl A small mixing bowl to whisk the matcha powder with water
  • 1 Matcha Whisk A bamboo or electric whisk to whisk and froth the matcha
  • 1 Sifter Helps remove clumps from the matcha powder for a smoother drink
  • Matcha Scoop For measuring matcha powder
  • 1 Glass For serving
  • 1 Milk Frother (Optional) If you prefer frothed milk for a creamier texture

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp matcha powder 1/2 tsp for a lighter taste
  • 1/4 cup Hot Water Avoid boiling water as it makes the matcha taste bitter
  • 3/4 cup Milk Whole milk is creamy and rich, and it balances matcha's slight bitterness. Oat milk is naturally sweet and creamy, one of the best choices for matcha
  • 3 tsp Agave 1 tsp if you prefer mildly sweet. Mild and neutral, dissolves and blends smoothly
  • 3 tbsp Heavy Cream Depending on how creamy your matcha foam
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar To add sweetness to your foam

Instructions

  • Start by warming your water to 160 to 170 degrees. Do not boil it, as that will result in bitter matcha.
  • Sift your matcha into a bowl for a smoother drink.
  • Pour the hot water into the bowl and mix well. If you're using a bamboo whisk, use the "W" motion to create a silky smooth matcha. And if you're using an electric frother, mix just enough for the powder to fully dissolve in the water.
  • Now, add your agave syrup to the matcha and mix well.
  • This step is optional if you want to add cold foam to your matcha. Pour the heavy cream into a glass and add sugar.
  • Use an electric whisk to mix it until it gets a thick consistency, then set aside
  • Get another glass and put ice in it; proceed to pour your choice of milk, then your matcha, and end with cold foam.
  • Sift a small bit of matcha on top of your drink for an aesthetic, cafè drink, and enjoy!
